First sync and historical backfill explained

First GSC sync unlocks a recent data window quickly; historical backfill continues in the background afterward.

RankWatch prioritizes a recent Search Console window so Overview becomes usable quickly, then backfills older days.

What it is

First sync — initial import after linking a property (short recent window).
Historical backfill — continued import of older GSC days until the retention window is filled or Google pagination ends.

What to expect

  • Dashboards may look “incomplete” for history until backfill catches up.
  • Changing property restarts sync for the new property.
  • Google API quotas/delays can slow backfill; Rankings tracking is independent.

Where to find it

Project Search Console → Settings (connection status) and Overview as data arrives.
