Track subdomains for AI visibility explained

How the Track subdomains option affects which URLs count as your brand in AI mention and citation detection.

When you create AI visibility for a project, Track subdomains controls whether URLs on subdomains of your brand host count as owned for mention and citation matching.

Default behavior

  • On by default at AI brand-identity setup (stored per AI context as include_subdomains; missing values are treated as enabled).
  • www and the apex host are always treated as the same site.
  • With tracking on, citations and mentions that point at blog.example.com or docs.example.com can count toward your owned presence when those hosts share your tracked domain.

When to turn it off

Turn Track subdomains off if:

  • Subdomains belong to other brands or partners you do not want scored as you
  • You only want apex (and www) URLs to count as owned citations

SEO search contexts have a similar include-subdomains setting for organic ranking URLs; configure AI separately when your AI and SEO host rules differ.
